You Can Unlearn Worry

Many of us grew up in home environments filled with worry, worry about money, our safety, health issues, the economy, war, success, happiness, whether or not we were popular and well-liked - lots of time and lots of worry. Some of us lost sleep because of worry, others were obsessive about it and where did all that worry get us? It’s often said that most of what we worry about never happens. So why do we keep doing it?

Worry focuses our attention on what we don’t want. Giving what we don’t want energy can actually increase the likelihood of our worries coming to pass!

To the extent that worrying is a habit we learn, we can un-learn it as well.

Patients presented with new health symptoms will often breathe a sigh of relief after hearing the diagnosis. You know what phrase I'm talking about: "Whew, is that it? I was really afraid to come here today because I was expecting the worst. I didn’t really want to know.”

You've probably thought it and maybe even said it aloud. Because of this fear, many people choose to avoid seeking the necessary care.

The condition starts out small and festers into something that may ultimately have a big detriment to your health and lifestyle.

All because of the fear of the unknown; afraid to hear the bad news. When in fact at the outset, there is no bad news to hear. But your fear becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Chiropractors have seen this many times. A new patient will come in with a self-diagnosis of something they deem incurable. After the initial exam, the chiropractor sits them down and explains to their surprise what they have is usually much more benign than they anticipate. For example, the patient assumes it’s a blown disc while it's really nothing more than a moderate low back strain. Even if it is a blown disc, they find out that in most case they can be helped without surgery. They may still have reservations. So they are told what they can do to help support the care we offer. After a couple of visits or two they’re seeing some progress and they usually admit their worry was groundless.

Sometimes, surprising relief comes after the first couple of visits. For others, progress takes longer. We've had excellent results with many health problems that haven’t resolved with traditional methods.

Don’t hang onto your worries! Bring them to us and see if we have a solution for you.

Dr. Kat Asks some important questions of interest to Rockville residents - Chiropractor Rockville Dr. Kat Asks...

Why is a "slipped disc" unlikely?
Separating each spinal vertebra is a disc. Its fibrous outer ring holds in a jelly-like material. Because of the way a disc attaches to the spinal bones above and below it, it can't actually "slip." However, a disc can bulge, tear, herniate, thin and collapse. But it can't slip.
Are chiropractors just concerned with the spine?
Our interest in the spine is because it covers the major communications conduit between your brain and your body. As a Rockville chiropractor my job is to locate areas (usually along the spine) that interfere with proper nerve communications to and from your brain. Chiropractic adjustments help restore nervous system integrity. In this way, chiropractic care can affect the function of your entire body.
